"as iron sharpens iron may our sparks ignite the world

“And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” Mark 4:39

What was the moment that broke you and drew you to your knees? For me it wasn’t that that this moment didn’t drive me to my knees but it brought deep peace in me. it was the moment where I was deep in my addiction, walking in a clear eating disorder that not too many were telling me I had, or cared to tell me. One moment that I still look back at and am just like what?! I had run into someone from high school at church and they said, “you look great.” I was like, “thanks.” Today, I think back at that moment and say, that was not me looking great, that was me wanting to be wanted, wanted to be seen, but all it brought was my impending death. sadly, I was so blinded that the compliments would draw me deeper into eating less, working out more, taking all the supplements I could to get the body, the sick pack all the things. I was being led by feelings and not by who I am already am in Christ, fearfully and wonderfully made. Let me put this here too, there is nothing wrong with working out and eating correctly, but in a healthy way. When it is being done out of a need of acceptance thEn QUIT NOW, do not procrastinate!

My breaking moment was when my mentor called me after kicking me out of the women’s program I was in to tell me what the Pastor over it told her to tell me, “tell her, the Lord said to come back and finish what she started.” Y’all I was not trying to go back there. I was done. I had moved on. Back slides into my addiction, started buying my supplements again, and back to a small weight that almost took me out. Y’all I was in the hospital twice with a heart-rate that they did not know how I was still alive. ANYWAYS….. that morning of that call from my mentor, I had read this verse: “Here is my advice: It would be good for you to finish what you started a year ago. Last year you were the first who wanted to give, and you were the first to begin doing it. Now you should finish what you started. Let the eagerness you showed in the beginning be matched now by your giving. Give in proportion to what you have. Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have.” (2 Corinthians 8:10-12)

If Im honest I wasn’t trying to hear this verse, so I kept doing me for lack of better words and went to work, but my friend had given me a note with this verse on it that same day, ‘Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left. Then you will destroy all your silver idols and your precious gold images. You will throw them out like filthy rags, saying to them, “Good riddance!”Then the Lord will bless you with rain at planting time. There will be wonderful harvests and plenty of pastureland for your livestock.” Isaiah 30:21-23

I wasn’t trying to hear this one either, but it was clear that the Lord was calling me back. I’ve got to tell you that I truly was not excited to let my phone be on pause for a whole year, and not that I was missing anything, I didn’t want to miss anything lol But here I am Lord, I will obey, because clearly you are peacefully talking to me and leading me back to do what you knew what was best for me. So, I go back and this is the moment y’all where His calming authority arrest my heart and mind that He is the one who deeply cares for me and has freedom for me. First of all the first time I came I left the hospital and had a friend take me not even my mom because I was done with her for a bit, but this time my mom took me, and that hit different. So, we pull up to the driveway and my mentor runs out the house and embraces me, and I sink into it, like if it was the Lord himself hugging me. This is where I was supposed to be. this is where my mind would rest, my heart would bow, and where peace would be seen. Don’t get me wrong it was hard y’all, but if we look at everything as hard and don’t go after it will we really be transformed by God, if we stick to the easy how will we grow, we are called to grow in Christ, to abide in Him no matter the circumstances around us that is what keeps us unfazed, steadfast, when we abide in Him.

Guys! When we truly are obedient to Him and walk in His ways, He rises up and calms the storms within us that are keeping us from truly walking by faith, from truly believing him and knowing Him. I may not be perfect in walking steadfast but the moment I turn to Him he lifts me up and gives me the courage to walk by faith. Because you know it is hard to walk by faith, but how many of us can say that walking by faith is the worst? none of us. Because there is blessing when we do!

how much longer will we continue to let the ways of this world keep us from resting in Christ the one who is Calm and Steadfast, and that when we allow him to have Full Authority in our lives will give us all we need to rest sure in hiM, AND TRUST him in every step that He leads us too. When He is truly our Authority, every step we take will lead us to rest in His perfect peace, which calms every part of our being. Imagine that! What do we to live a unfazed calm life, resting in His authority!

REST IN HIS AUTHORITY FRIENDS!

I can’t imagine being anywhere but in his arms, the emotions arrested, the feelings arrested, the evil desires arrested, the people pleasing ways arrested, why would we want anything else that to live unfazed and calm and trustful in the Lord?

Don’t be too hard on yourself when you get out from under His caring authority we can go into His throne room of grace, repent and rise up with Him. He has grace for us guys, He knows we are weak and fickle, and he rejoices when we return, he rejoices when we acknowledge there is no one like him, that He indeed is the GREAT I AM, and that no one can compare to Him.

SIDE NOTE *THE DISCIPLES WHO FOLLOWED JESUS EVEN STRUGGLED RESTING IN HIS CARING AUTHORITY, WHICH IS WHY WE CAN BE ENCOURAGED BY SCRIPTURE THAT GOD IS GRACIOUS TO DEAL WITH US AND USE US FOR HIS GLORY WHEN WE SURRENDER.

“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable. So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”

Hebrews 4:12-16

THE PROMISES OF GOD WHEN WE OBEY, WHEN WE COME INTO HIS CARING AUTHORITY, WE WILL RECEIVE HIS MERCY, WE WILL FIND GRACE, WE WILL WALK IN THE PEACE THAT SURPASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING, WE WILL RECEIVE THE WISDOM THAT COMES FROM HIM SO WE CAN WALK. WE WILL. WE WILL. WE WILL.

THERE IS NO BETTER PLACE TO BE IN HIS CARE. START TODAY!

Go be a spark of influence, and may we together ignite the world.
