How do you consider the person across from you? When we look at the definition of consideration it says: careful thought, typically over a period of time. Do we consider people before we assume of them, or compare ourselves to them, and let them affect how we walk, talk, shop and live. Do we consider them in such a way or think about how long it took them to be where they are? Or do we ask how did they get where they are, was it truly in the way of the Lord or their own way. Sometimes we compare ourselves to people thinking that the way they took is the way the Lord wanted them to go when if we were to have a conversation with the Lord he would say, don’t follow their ways, but the way I have for you to go in, that way, it is good, pleasing and perfect, I promise you that no matter what the path looks like I will be with you in every step, I will be there to comfort you, hold you, enjoy it with you, cry it out with you. This is God’s promise to us, that He will be with us, and that the person that across from us, in a lower or higher position than us, we are all on the same journey with or separate from God, and we should care which journey we are on as one leads to eternity with Him and one leads to eternity without.
I have had my times and seasons where I have truly let comparison be the thief of the joy that awaited for me where the Lord had placed me. How many times have we allowed the present moment to keep us from truly being content with where He has us? Philippians 4 tells us “Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned, in whatever situation I am, to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:11-13
How can I be content if I am comparing my life to everyone else?
How can I be content if I am within to have what everyone else has?
Short answer. I cannot be content when I am looking at everyone else and not at what the Lord has given me, right in front of me. I can’t imagine, looking at another family and wanting what they have? That sounds terrible.
Christ calls us to be content in every situation. Why? So, when the world looks on they see someone who is simply grateful. We don’t have to complicate this walk here, YET we do because we think there is more to achieve, more to see, more to have, BUT what if we are wrong, what if the main reason we were put here on earth was to simply be content and grateful, and that alone was pleasing in the sight of God, is that enough for us?
Here is a crazy idea what if you delete your social media? What if you delete Pinterest? Does that seem a little extreme?
If you think about it the Word of God is a healthy extreme. Did I use the right wording there LOL But as I read His word, I consistently see how He tells to walk, and strip off of us all things that keep us from walking the narrow way.
Let’s read about the way we are supposed to deal with things that keep us from truly living a life that is sweet smelling aroma to the Lord.
“If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.” Matthew 5:29-30
Y’all this verse was just a little ahhh, but here we are and we are to obey it. What in your life do you need to tear out and throw away? One of mine is comparison. That I would look at my life as blessed, filled with joy and overflowing of grace from our great God. I could ask for nothing else, when I do, I have fixed my gaze on the temporary of the world, on the things that will keep me from seeing the goodness of God. The more I look at the world around and lust over its things the more my actions, thoughts will look less Christ and more like un-appreciation for the Creator of the universe.
“by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:8-10
This is why we are to live unfazed by comparison, because we have all been given something better than what this world can offer us which is salvation in Christ, hope for eternal life with God, where there will be no more pain, no more tears, no more betrayals, no more fear, no more insecurity, just peace, just an overwhelming of wow, we are finally home. Why would we try ad keep adding temporary when what we are waiting for is so much better? have we forgotten where are true home is?
“so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God.” 1 Peter 4:2
Stop desiring your human passions.
What good are they doing if it’s leading you to comparison?
What good are they doing if it’s leading you to walk anxious and desperate to gain more to be seen as the best, to be seen as favored. Don’t you already know you are favored by your Father in heaven, the one who has so much love that HE chose to create and form you so you can bask in His great love.
The more I bask in His great love for me, the more content I will be that even if it looks shiny, and nice, I won’t care more about that than being and resting in His presence. And the more I bask in His great love, the more what will come oozing out of me is him, that my family will be a recipient of His love, goodness, grace, His blessings. Our life is to be a sweet smelling aroma to all that come into our spaces. And the only way they will know that we love Him and our His disciples is if we obey Him, abide in Him, commune with Him, enjoy the quiet with Him knowing that even if we don’t have what that person has, we are content with the best thing CHRIST and our main purpose in life is to make him known.
Today, trust that He is all that you need, let go of what you desire that does not line up with His good, pleasing and perfect will, desire only to obey Him, worship Him, serve Him, walk with Him, and ignite others in the way that He leads you too because He will. But first it starts by deleting everything from your life that is keeping you from being thankful with what the gift you’ve been given that you did not deserve, but that he gave you to show you his commitment and faithfulness.
Choose this day who you will serve.
Choose contentment in Christ there is nothing better.
“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground. Psalm 143:10
“But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. 11But as for you, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6:6-12

We can’t take anything with us people, stop trying to add to your life here, desire more of Christ.
Go and ignite friends, go and show His great love to all you encounter, make Heaven crowded.
