"as iron sharpens iron may our sparks ignite the world

“The steps of a man are established by the Lord , when he delights in his way;” Psalm 37:23

established: (of a plant) having taken root; growing well; achieve permanent acceptance or recognition for; show (something) to be true or certain by determining the facts; make firm and stable.

Countless times I have looked up the definition established, and never read the first one you read, “of a plant, having taken root, growing well. When we read the Psalms 37 we see the grace of God, we see how no matter what is going on around us, when we choose to trust in the Lord, when we choose to delight in His way rather than our, because if we are honest sometimes we want to do things that we want to do chasing for a feeling or a high because our life may not seem as exciting in the moment, or we are looking around us and seeing how we can maybe do better than what God has put right in front of us. Saying that out loud is giving me a weird feeling, like do I reeky think that the Creator of the universe, the one who says He formed me in my mother’s womb, who said He has a plan for me, and has already established my steps before I was even born, that’s crazy to me.

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!” Psalm 139:13-17

Does this verse not make you just sit still, scratch head, and say are you sure? Like me, you made me fearfully and wonderfully? You truly did your perfect work on me? He can nothing less of perfect. yet we forget that, because we think everything else is perfect accept for what He has placed in front of us.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:8-10

How about this one? GOD your grace saved me because you have given me the joy to choose you over anything. Why do we try to go to everything else for salvation when we clearly know that when we seek salvation from everyone else but God himself we always get let down, we don’t get the peace we long for, the joy we seek, the contentment we desire. Y’all His grace is enough for us, His grace saved us because His love for us is so deep and wide, high and long that He knew in our weakness we would need him, even in our lack of trust in Him, he still chooses to gift us with His grace. The crazy thing is that we can’t do anything to earn His grace, it is gift. It is still one that messes with me. Why? Because for one we live in a world where you have to prove yourself to get to the place you want, the position you want, to be able to have more money, more things to write on your resumes. But with God, he truly never really cares about that. We don’t see anywhere in scripture him mention, if you do this then this will happen, if you do that I will give you more and more, if you say yes to everyone I will give you all that you need to do it; let me say this real quick, does God put you in spaces where hard work was done on your part, yes; does he give you money that maybe you don’t know what to do with, yes; but to say that if you all do all the right things and he will bless you in the worlds physical things, I truly don’t agree with that, but what I do believe is that when we delight in the Lord and are faithful in wherever path he places us on that is where we will grow, it is where He will make us more into the image of His Son.

That he created us for good works that He created BEFOREHAND, not so we can boast about ourselves or make it all about us, but that He would be glorified through our obedience to Him, our joy of knowing Him and for praising Him because of all He has done and is continuing to do without our knowing.

Do you know that he has established your steps?

Do you trust the steps he has already established, has already written down, has already prepared for you for the glory of His name to draw so many to Him?

Do you delight in His ways?

Have you befriend faithfulness, like psalm 37:3 says.

“Trust in the Lord , and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord , and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord ; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!” Psalm 37:3-7

When we delight in his ways, when we trust Him and do good, not to get something from God but because we have already received all we needed His grace to walk through this life that is so hard at times, comes with much grief, and anger, but also comes with much joy and moments of peace; we can walk unfazed, steadfast in Him that we are all able to continue to walk in His ways and know there is no other path better than straying away from the one created for us beforehand by the one who formed us and knew us before anyone ever did.

When we remember that we were known and loved by God before anyone thought of us or wanted us that should sober us to rest in the beauty and grace of God’s love for us.

Father, help us to trust you, to delight in you and your ways for us, help us to remain anchored in the truth of what you have already told us in your word, you already saw us Father, you already accepted us and there is nothing else we need to do but just be with you, abide in you and walk with you all the rest of our lives and know that you have given us all we need to remain unfazed and remain faithful to you no matter the good that we walk in or the hard that we walk in, you are in it all with us. Thank you Jesus.

friends, we need God.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord , and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.” Proverbs 3:5-8

How can we live unfazed lives, steady without trusting in the Lord, without walking by Faith when his Spirit leads us to trust Him and grow in deeper intimacy with Him.

One of the things I desire the most is to be unfazed and steadfast in the Lord not to pat myself in the back but to be a mother who is confident in the Lord and in her identity as His daughter, and to be a wife that helps her husband continue to trust in the Lord with all his heart and love Him with every single intricate part of himself that our kids would desire the same as they see mommy and daddy walk after God passionately, unashamedly and joyfully and steadfast in every circumstance God says is best for us to grow and be all the more steadfast in Christ!

go and be a spark of influence wherever you go ❤
