"as iron sharpens iron may our sparks ignite the world

“for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7

When was the last time you were for real focused, that no one could distract you or keep you from doing the task that was right in front of you? If we are honest in this world we are in currently we are easily distracted, with the next new buzz, the new next best thing. But if we are honest again how quickly do we get frustrated with it the next thing, the new idea that gets us so excited that we forget about what we are doing now, and even lose passion for what is right in front of us.

I have had so many of those moments. I am a natural dreamer. You give me one idea and I’ll give you 10 more. But the weakness of the dreamer is that they lose focus and forget about the main thing that made them do what they are presently doing. We get fazed and start to spin in so many directions that we end up confusing ourselves about what is happening, shouldI be doing this, did I take route? But what if I told you that we don’t have to spin ourselves into a frenzy trying to get all the next things, or strive to make things happen because the person next door just did this and got to be where they are.

The moment we start getting focused on everything else but what the Lord has us doing , even in the normal living stages of life, that I find myself in mom of five kids, wife of my hard working husband and in supporting help in the way the Lord asks of me, may we have the courage and humility to pause and know that even in the normal day ins and outs of life, the Lord is doing something in you and those around you and to not lose sight of the importance of the now, because when we allow the world to have one little open space in our lives, those around us will get hurt, will start to see the passion out of our eyes and heart. May we remain in the rhythms of grace God has for us in the daily.

We are resting at a church right now until we move and there was something the pastor said he said this, “when you stay in the rhythms of grace, trust the Lord and follow Him, in all of that he is growing our character. Y’all he’s strengthening our spiritual stamina, he’s teaching us how to endure even when we are doing the same thing over and over again, even if it seems super small and not of the world’s utmost importance, in the eyes of the Lord all that He puts in front of us to steward is important because it is all an opportunity to draw near to Him, and help others see Him that they too may draw near to Him. This season maybe mundane but His grace is with you, His hand is with you, His patience is in you. Don’t miss what the Lord is doing in this normal stage. Stay focused here and now, so when this season is up you are ready to take on whatever else he has for you and it’s another time for character growth and to see him all the more. But why would he give us something else if we are not focused and faithful in what we are doing now. We can force a door to open because we are discontent about where we are but we will end up hating it and talking bad about that door, when in actuality we shouldn’t have been there anyways. If you have already done that, I encourage you to pray, seek counsel, because in a multitude of counselors there is wisdom (Proverbs 11:14; Provers 24:6), and humble yourself and go back to doing what you were doing and finish that well (2 Corinthians 8:10-11) that he may get the utmost glory and praise.

That sounds scary doesn’t it? To humble yourself and go finish something you were never supposed to leave. maybe. But if we truly fear God, we should rather desire to honor Him and be in His will rather than our own. it is safer in His hands. The moment we come back to the Lord and tell Him, ‘forgive me, I got bored, I got jealous, I wanted what they have and got discontent with what you have placed in front of me, I want to come back into your perfect and pleasing will for me and those around me.’ Oh, y’all that is the moment when the Lord smiles down on you and turns it all around and maybe in an extravagant way or not and extravagant way, but trust no matter what when the Lord moves it is all extravagant, He delights in seeing you in His will.

Let’s read the beginning verses of 2 Timothy 1 specifically verses 6-7, “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:6-7

Timothy hadn’t forgotten the gift of God in Him, Timothy was having some fearful thoughts, that were keeping him from being bold and courageous, so his flame was running dim. I am sure this world sometimes dims us. Dims us in such a way that we will stop being fully focused on the call God has given us. Paul, urges him to continue to fan the flame, to not allow it to go dim because there is too much work to do for him to stay silent. Y’all sometimes the moment we start to fear we freeze, we fear because there is not gonna lie a lot of fearful things happening around us, and truly we’ rather stay safe and keep our families safe then do 100% what God has told us to do. But how many of us know that even in the midst of our fear we are called to obey and then when we step into that courageous faith He goes before us, strengthens us to do it.

Imagine if Peter, would not have lost his gaze on Christ when Jesus told him to come? Also, we tend to give him crap for sinking but how many of us can say we walked out by faith to the one who we have faith in alone.

Friends, the only way to remain unfazed by this word and fearlessly focused is by fixing our gaze on Him, it is by keeping our minds stayed on Him, because when we do perfect peace is ours.

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2

When we lay it all aside we will be unfazed and will be able to walk in fearless focus.

Go be a spark of influence, and may we together ignite the world.
