“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5
We live in a world where they tell us to follow our hearts but if know our bibles, it says in Jeremiah 17:9-10, ‘The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”
y’all the last part of Jeremiah 17:10 blew my mind, the Lord said he “will give to us according to our ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.” Isn’t crazy that He truly does see it all, know it all. It should give us “peace that surpasses all understanding,” like Philippians 4:7 says. If you read before Philippians 4:7, you will see how the Lord tells us how to get this peace that surpasses all understanding.
lets read it together.
“Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:4-9
okay, so always be full of the joy in the Lord. Are we full of the joy of the Lord? How do we know when we truly walking in the joy of the Lord? One way to know that you are walking full of the joy of the Lord, is when you are spending time with the Lord, look at Psalms, David literally has bipolar emotions but the Lord still says, David a man after my own heart. Don’t overlook his testimony, it’s a little bit crazy, but God still calls him his own. At any point he could have been like, I’m struggling with you Lord, I keep messing up, there is no way you love me anymore and move away from the Lord. But he does not, he humbles himself daily, and says Lord I need you and continues to pursue relationship with God, because he knew that in Him there was nothing but joy. That should bring us peace, that even when we are inconsistent, He always reminds us of His consistency and that’s enough. the more you discover God, the more you discover his heart.
DON’T STOP WRESTLING WITH GOD.
The next step into walking in this perfect peace that surpasses all understanding is being considerate with one another. showing careful thought towards others. How are we being considerate, going the extra mile so that they can see God. Jesus is coming back soon, so now more than ever in the time that we have we are called to be considerate to one another, bring others to see the grace of God through how He has shown us grace.
Third, to walk in this perfect peace that surpasses all understanding we should be, not worrying about anything but praying about everything, telling God what we need and thanking him for what He has already given us. If we truly are not worrying about anything and praying, we will not be fazed by anything that will come our way, we will continually take it to him, and even thank him for it because we know that his plans for us are good, and to make us more into the image of His Son.
Fourth, fix your thoughts on Him, the fullness of who he is, first of all this should already bringing the most extraordinary peace that just overwhelms to the point of falling to our knees in worship. Fixing our thoughts on him, because our thoughts apart from him are wretched, evil, I mean look at Mark 7:21-23 “For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.” Wow! So why keep our gaze and thoughts fixed on Him because we can rest. There is nothing peaceful about evil thoughts.
Y’all the Peace of God will be with us when we choose to walk in His joy, when we walk in His grace, when we walk in knowing that He is all we need, that He has everything we need for us to walk unfazed, confidently quiet, and secure in our relationship with us. The beautiful things about our salvation is that is a gift, we could not earn it, we don’t deserve, God freely gave it to us at an expensive price. That is why we are to meditate on the cross daily, because that should help us to see how this world can offer us nothing but temporary things that drive us insane.
So, why Proverbs 3:5 and Jeremiah 17:7-10 and Philippians 4; because if we truly Trust in the Lord, we will stop leaning on our own understanding, like Jeremiah tells us: ‘“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? But I, the Lord , search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.”
the ESV version says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?”
We cannot understand our own hearts, so why do we rely on them. There is nothing reliable about us, that is why we cling to Christ because when we abide in him we are able to be a people filled with quiet confidence and steadfast for those around us to see Christ, the rock that cannot be moved.
Trust in the lord friends, and do not lean on your own understanding, because it is unstable without Christ being our Shepherd, when we trust in Him he will guide our path into open pastures, where we will rest in his perfect peace, be fully confident in our salvation and relationship with him not because of anything we did but simply trust him and was by faith.

Go be a spark of influence, and may we together ignite the world.
